It amazes me how we mapped words into numbers, then taught the numbers to reach for each other, every query attending to a key, until the sentence quietly settled what it meant.

The same arithmetic now helps us code, breaks our old limits, and now and then lies with a perfectly straight face. 

I mean, what's not to love?
